Studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, completing a four year degree course in Fine Art in the department of Drawing and Painting in 1986. During the foundation year at Art College I was introduced to 35mm film photography and given the opportunity to learn developing and printing techniques.

I really enjoyed these classes and was lucky enough to be taught by Joseph McKenzie, regarded by many as the ‘Father of Modern Scottish Photography’. I have continued to be interested in photography ever since - and now enjoy exploring the creativity possible using digital techniques.

Photography has renewed my wonder in the detail found in nature - it always challenges your preconceptions and constantly surprises you with its beauty.

I mainly use a Konica Minolta Dynax 5D SLR for landscape shots. For close-up nature shots, I tend to use a Konica Minolta Z5 compact - mainly because it is small and almost silent in operation (which the Dynax is not!) and can be fitted with close-up lenses such as the Nikon 4T.

I have in the last few months also been experimenting with a Canon Powershot A640 compact digital camera. By fitting a Hoya R72 IR filter, I have found this to be a great camera for digital infrared photography.
